“Lovebugs & Bald Cypress”
(charcoal and watercolor)
5" x 5" (framed)

Created for the show "Love" at the Los Angeles County Store, and since this piece was made specifically for that show I thought I would give you some context. Lovebugs, despite their name, are a species of march fly and are not very cute. They are found in the southeastern United States, especially along the Gulf Coast, where they fly in numbers that reach hundreds of thousands, the sight of which has been described as reminiscent of snow fall. A friend of mine once told me that when the Lovebugs show up, you knew it was the beginning of hurricane season. The leaves are Bald Cypress, a tree commonly found growing in the swamps and bayous of the same region. Not only do I love this geographic region for many reasons, but my heart belongs to someone currently residing there.
